Garrett County, Maryland Inmate Search

A Gerrett County inmate search is the procedure used to locate official records of individuals held in custody within the county. Persons listed in these records are typically either awaiting court proceedings or serving sentences following a conviction.

The Garrett County Sheriff’s Office maintains inmate records and oversees the local detention facility. Jail rosters and related documentation are considered public records under applicable laws and may be inspected or copied by members of the public, subject to statutory guidelines.

Information obtained through an inmate search generally includes:

  • Identifying details of the inmate
  • Booking and custody information
  • Court case outcomes or sentencing details

In addition to the Sheriff’s office, other law enforcement agencies operate within the county. These include the Oakland Town Police, which serves the Town of Oakland at the municipal level, and the Maryland Department of Police, which provides statewide law enforcement services.

How to Find an Inmate in Garrett County Jail

To find individuals held at the Garrett County Detention Center, which is operated by the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office, members of the public must follow the procedures established by the sheriff’s office.

Under Maryland Law, inmate records are public and may be reviewed or requested by interested persons, subject to statutory limitations. However, the sheriff’s office does not maintain a comprehensive online inmate search database. Instead, it provides arrest logs that contain limited booking information. For detailed custody records, direct contact with the Sheriff’s office is required.

The available methods for conducting an inmate search include:

  • Written Requests: Individuals may submit a written inquiry by mail or email to request information about a person in custody. The request should include sufficient identifying details, such as
    • Full name of inmate
    • Booking number (if known)

Providing accurate information helps ensure a timely and precise response.

  • In-Person Inquiries: Members of the public may also visit the sheriff’s office to request inmate information directly. Office staff can assist with verifying custody status and providing available public details.

The address of the sheriff’s office is as follows:

311 East Alder Street

Oakland, Maryland 21550
